Janus: Two-faced mischief-maker
The essence of Godhead is to be two-faced: looking forwards as well as backwards. Although both follow the same path, each provides continuity of past and future.
In mythology, they are referred to as a door and a hinge. The door gives purpose to the hinge while the hinge enables the door to function. Mostly though, Janus is a master mischief-maker.

It is within the power of a god to transcend the flow of time and create the Present. Neither the Past, the Future nor the Present can exist without the others. Confused yet?
