Art: love

BACK TO PAINTING AND DRAWING.

“Who dares unlace a reckless lust or the crafty purpose of love?”

What is love? I have no idea.

What I do know is that when it strikes it’s a tsunami of bewilderment, pain, anguish and fear. It harvests the extremes of every human emotion and mixes them in a bowl, sprinkles the concoction with chocolate kisses and magical whispers, and serves it up on a bed of moorland mist pierced here and there with pinholes of angelic enlightenment. Hummingbirds of impossible turquoise hue may also be involved. Oh, and liver salts.

This gallery deals with the juxtaposition of expressions, the dawning, and aftermath of love.

LoveWebSMALLLove: Gobble ~ All creatures can be bribed with treats – a method employed by those to exercise dominion over us. It goes without saying that with bribery there are always strings attached.  I can’t speak for other animals but with humans, love is always involved in bribery.

Lorenzo ~ With love everything is possible.

There are infinite varieties of love and surely amongst the most problematic is a love of the Divine. Lorenzo was so impassioned he believed he could row his boat to the opposite bank of a dry river-bed.

Peggy ~ Some gild their love with fools gold and collect promises like cherries.

Their curse is to yearn for something that never was.  I wanted to express something of the chill emptiness of jilted love, how our human desires collude with self-deception.
